The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975
The first of 4 films we’ll be screening is The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975, the documentary features the found footage shot by a group of Swedish journalists which was lost then found 30 years later in the cellar of Swedish Television. It is overlaid with commentaries and interviews from leading contemporary African-American activists, artists, scholars and musicians. The film focuses on several topics and subjects relevant to the Black Power Movement and features Angela Davis’ famous interview “When someone asks me about violence, I just find it incredible, because what it means is that the person who’s asking that question has absolutely no idea what black people have gone through, what black people have experienced in this country, since the time the first black person was kidnapped from the shores of Africa.”
